John Hightower built a different cemetery.
It contains no headstones or bodies. No one comes to weep over someone they love.
Hightower was the general of Camp John Hay in the Philippines. He noticed life was full of things like disappointments, discouragements, and depressions. He knew people needed to get rid of them. So he built a cemetery on the slope of the hill where “negativity” gets buried.
The sign at the entrance reads, “Negativism is man’s greatest self-imposed infliction, his most limiting factor, his heaviest burden. No more, for here is buried the world’s negativism for all time. Those who rest here have died not in vain—but for you, a stern reminder. As you leave this hill, remember that the rest of your life. Be More Positive.”
One tombstone reads, “Why was I born? Wondering why. Died for no reason.”
Paul reminded Christians,
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing,” (Philippians 2:14,)
When life gets you down, and it grows dark, walk to a cemetery with Jesus. Leave your corpse there, make your peace with it, and leave with a reminder of blessing and hope.
Then, leave the cemetery and start living.
