How well can you wait?
Many would say, “Are you kidding? Who needs to wait?” Google feeds up answers with a click of a key. In offices, the timer on microwaves reads ten seconds because people are too impatient to wait for the end.
In 2023, almost 30,000 adults took part in a study of patience. The findings convict our population. Every minute we wait, our mood worsens while doing nothing. Most seek reassurance from social media updates.
So, how well do you do? Do you expect an immediate answer to text messages? If an email waits several hours for a response, do you assume the worst of others?
The Bible is replete with stories of people forced to wait. Abraham took years before Isaac’s birth. Joseph languished in an Egyptian prison. Judean captives spent 70 years in Babylon waiting for God to fulfill his promise.
But God takes his time to accomplish his will. Men measure seconds, while God measures the right moment. He only acts when the time is right.
Isaiah reminds us,
“but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
When life doesn’t happen when you want it, wait because God knows what he is doing. And would you rush perfection?
