Sometimes, you need to stop
just to remember what matters most.
Because life?
It gets lost in the details.
Two weeks ago, I woke up to the sound of running water.
Not a faucet.
Not the dishwasher.
Something else.
When I walked down the hall, I stepped onto soggy carpet.
And the wood floor?
It looked like a small beach—swollen and warping at the seams.
The culprit?
A leak.
At the slab.
Right behind the hot water heater.
I shut the water off.
Called a plumber.
Six hours later, the repair was done.
But the damage?
Already there.
The wood floors we installed six years ago—ruined.
Soaked and seeping.
The restoration company confirmed what I didn’t want to hear:
The floors would have to come up.
Now, I’m living with the constant hum
of industrial fans that sound like highway traffic.
Waiting. Wondering.
What’s next?
There’s so much to think about.
So much to consider.
And worry…
Yeah. That’s the word that kept circling.
Worry is a tormentor.
It drags your mind into a future that hasn’t happened
and paints it in the worst colors imaginable.
So, I sat down.
Had a long talk with myself.
And finally faced it.
It’s just stuff.
One day, all of it—the floors, the house, the furniture—
will end up in a dumpster somewhere.
Because none of it was meant to last.
Besides…
When did life ever promise to run smoothly?
Here’s the truth I had to remember:
I’m healthy.
I’ve got a loving family.
Good friends.
God’s grace.
So—what’s the real problem?
And even if there is one,
what can I do about tomorrow anyway?
Seneca once said:
“We suffer more in imagination than in reality.”
Jesus said it even better:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
(Matthew 6:34, NIV)
So here’s the plan:
Get through today.
With the Lord’s help.
And let that be enough.
