Desirae Kelly felt unsettled as she roused in bed one morning. She felt what seemed like a feather wiggling back and forth in her ear.

She thought it was her imagination, so she rolled over and tried to go to sleep. But it kept bothering her.

Finally, out of caution, she consulted a doctor. It was back and now felt like a pointed stick. She assumed it was earwax.

She wasn’t prepared for what the nurse told her. Something moved in her ear.

The nurse shot a stream of water into her ear…and a nickel-sized spider fell out.

How would you like something inside that should be there? Not very comforting, is it?

Paul knew that many have something in them worse than a nocturnal arachnid. He told the Ephesians about their own invaders, things that need washing from the heart of a Christian.

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” (Ephesians 4:31, ESV)

The heart can harbor so many attitudes and thoughts. Some create a life God detests. Traits like gossip and backbiting are the fruits of an unguarded heart.

Remember, something is always trying to crawl into your life. A spider in the ear is bad enough, but what corrupts the heart is worse.

What’s inside of you?
