A young man named Jeremiah grew up in one foster home after another. It started to wear him down.
His mother was a drug addict with a severe mental illness. She died when Jeremiah was 9 years old.
At night, he cried himself to sleep with the words, “Why didn’t my mom want me?”
Hateful things gushed from his mouth. His rage seeped out in behavior.
Years later, he found her old social media feeds, and he came to grips with reality.
He needed to release the anger he harbored against the woman. Finally, with the decision to forgive, the anger left his soul.
He refused to seek vengeance that he could never attain.
Yet he also discovered that he would still have those emotions occasionally. In those times, he kept forgiving his mother again. For him, it has become a daily practice.
Forgiveness is a nice word that has a harsh reality. We don’t want to forgive. Even the disciples wrestled with it.
Peter asked Jesus the question, “How many times do I have to forgive someone? Jesus told him, “Seventy times seven”
It’s not mathematics, but spiritual ciphering. Never let forgiveness have a limit. Instead, find the moment and let it go.
Jeremiah learned his life could only be whole when he forgave what seemed unforgivable.
So who do you need to forgive?
