Tan Flippin found himself in a hospital with a fractured hip after a bicycle accident left him injured. What seemed like a misfortune turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
During a routine CT scan to check for a concussion, doctors discovered something unexpected: a large, malignant tumor on the front of Flippin’s brain. Immediate treatment, including bone marrow transplants, began, and today, Flippin is cancer-free.
Often, people face problems that seem pointless or punitive. Is it punishment? Bad luck? Such interruptions are rarely welcomed. Many think, “If God loved me, he wouldn’t let this happen.”
Yet, life’s harshest experiences can refine character to a high gloss.
James offers wisdom for those enduring life’s fiery trials:
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2–4, ESV)
Broken bones heal. Pain builds endurance. The valley is tough, but the summit is glorious.
Trust that God knows what He is doing. Hold onto His hands during tough times, and He will lead you to a better place.
