The New York Times started an article with a common experience. You wake up, look in the mirror, and notice dark circles. You feel as exhausted as you look. And don’t even talk about older.
For many Americans, it is a top complaint. Dark circles drive people to cosmetic counters and line the bank accounts of major companies. Everyone looks for the serum or cream to make the dark circles disappear so they can look better.
But some give a little wisdom in this saga.
A woman named Clare from DC said:
“I’m 92. Nobody looks at me anyway. Just be glad you can open those eyes every morning.”
TheraP from the Midwest added,
“Maybe we need to just accept the aging process with a certain humility and a bit of good humor.”
Peter would weigh in on any discussion about how we look. He wrote:
“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.” (1 Peter 3:3–4, ESV)
He tells us to stop worrying about how we look and concentrate on how we see. When a person’s character shines through, they see the beauty and truth God gives.
So, put the cream away and let others see who you are.
