Everyone in Bend, Oregon loves BOB.

But BOB is not a person but a local tourist attraction and a bane to the existence of many citizens. BOB stands for Big Obvious Boulder.

The large rock is a boulder that measures 3 feet by 3 feet. Few rocks get that much attention.

The problem is that Bob is at the entrance of a parking lot. Many drivers cannot see it as they approach, and it has become a magnet for cars, requiring extensive repairs.

Locals started a Facebook group for Bob and started putting stickers on Bob’s surface.

The first to have an unfortunate meeting with Bob was Terry Heiser. He turned, and the next thing he knew, his truck was on its side. The damage was bad enough for him to climb out of the passenger window.

Many people personify Bob in their lives. They are bad influences with bad habits. They drag people away from faith by the way they live. The Bible calls them stumbling blocks.

Paul warned the arrogant Corinthians, who believed they could do as they pleased,

“But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.” (1 Corinthians 8:9, ESV)

We are responsible for never diminishing the faith of another. If anything becomes the boulder over which someone stumbles, it is now our problem.

So Bob continues to wreak havoc. Don’t be BOB.
